Well, we arrived to Seattle and I
thought I had already blogged about it but no!! So here goes to remember our
nice road trip coming here…..We decided that we wanted to take our time going
there, and see some new countryside . So we went up through Pocatello, ID and
then to Butte, Montana starting on August 7th.
It was a beautiful drive and we
were seeing horse and cattle ranches and vast open spaces. We had been told
that if a park was not nearby, Walmart allows people in RV’s to stay overnight
in their parking lots for free! So, we made our way there and parked our fifth
wheel RV! We were far away from the regular cars and by the end of the evening
there was a large group of all kinds of RV’s gathered from all states bound who
knows where. Most of them had gone into Walmart during the evening so perhaps
it is a well thought out idea to let campers stay there for free! Early the
next morning we made our way to Missoula, Montana to see a well-known carousel
that was designed and crafted by volunteers like the one Don worked on in Salem,
OR where we lived for thirty years. Don took pictures and away we went seeing
lots more of the beautiful Rocky Mountains and open spaces. We took lots of
pictures and had a hard time finding a park to stay in because no Walmarts were
available. So, we wanted to see Coeur d’Alene,Idaho and we did ! The lake was
so blue but no parks had available sites so we traveled on to the edge of Idaho
right before Spokane, WA and found an overflow spot at Farragut State Park.
During WW11, Camp Farragut was a Naval training facility . There was a small
museum that we visited and then we camped for the night, next to a field of
wild flowers and tons of honey bees ! Luckily we didn’t get stung!
Our third day of travel took us through
Spokane and then to Moses Lake, WA.We found a small mom and pop type RV park
right by the Lake and it had the most beautiful sunset over the lake !! We were
happy to see our family friend Kristin Bean Fixmer and two of her four
children. Always special to see life long Salem friends. She brought us lemon
poppyseed muffins and we were on our way on day #4. Before we left the park ,
Don , being a brand new RV driver mistook the distance between him and a big
tree and the tree won ! It crunched the stairs and left poor Don feeling the
new RV driver blues !To say the least, it is a big challenge to drive a truck
and fifth wheel RV totaling 50 feet in length. Many people since then have
shared their war stories with Don so he feels a bit less sad , HAHA.. So from
the moment we left Moses Lake, the scenery began to be very familiar with the
scent of pine trees thicker than one could see through and lots of lakes and
rivers that brought many smiles to my heart and perhaps Don too. When we came
over I-90, we had been told that I-405 was closed so Don had to brave driving
through downtown Seattle with all the huge amounts of traffic ! He did a great
job and we pulled into Lake Pleasant RV park in Bothell, WA early on Saturday,
August 10th. This park was full of RV’s and two man made lakes with
geese and ducks that have deemed the park a wild bird habitat. Flowers were
hanging everywhere even over the garbage cans . We spent the day getting
settled into space 47 .
